An action movie with Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke (just to name a few) – you must be kidding! Well, how about this big Torpedo sampler including Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Torpedo, Romeo Julieta Reserva Real No. 2 Belicoso, Alec Bradley Prensado Torpedo, and Arturo Fuente Bauza Pyramid?
We start with Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Torpedo (6 1/4 x 52) Any cigar aficionado will tell you that when Rocky blends a cigar, it tends to lean towards the sophisticated palate. It's really not for the novice. His blends are rather complex, like a great Cabernet wine, he reaches for a combination of balance and complexity.
The second choice is Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real No. 2 Belicoso (6 1/8 x 52) With a beautiful, hand selected Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder and a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers, the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real makes for a rich and aromatic smoke that will arouse the desires of even the most demanding cigar connoisseur.
We continue with Alec Bradley Prensado Torpedo (6 1/8 x 52) This cigar was built around a new wrapper, the Corojo dos mil, seis (Corojo 2006). The wrapper was grown in late 2006 on the farm in Trojes Honduras and was in fermentation and aging through mid 2008. In addition, the cigar has a beautiful reddish brown "cubanesque" look and feel. Prensado is Alec Bradley/'s first traditional pressed line of cigars and the most full bodied blend to date.
The Mike's 1950 Belicoso (6 x 50) is next. he cigar was created by MATASA's Manuel Quesada, it is medium-to-full in body cigar offered in boxes of 20. Like all other cigars made by Manolo, Mike's 1950 is a masterpiece of tobacco blending. Sweet, yet spicy and full of interesting earthy notes it will please you from start to finish. When you light it the oil rich wrapper catch-up quickly and a nice, even, burn brings in the full aroma of a mature, completely aged tobacco. As you go through the next couple of inches the cigar will "warm-up" and produce the full range of its abundant flavors. Hints of nuts and coffee will titillate your palate and the finish is spiced with subtle hints of cinnamon and sweet herbs. The volume of smoke is full and the draw is effortless thanks to the superb rollmaking work of Matasas senior cigar crafters.
We conclude this sampler with Bauza Pyramid (5 1/2 x 55). Bauza is among the few non-Cuban brands that received 92 or over rating by the Cigar Aficionado Magazine. Wrapped in a beautiful Ecuador Sumatra Sun-grown leaf with Dominican binder and filler it provides a spicy yet soothing aroma with creamy delicate flavors of coffee and nutmeg.
