Dating from the 1840’s and originally manufactured in Cuba, Punch cigars are now also made at the Honduras American Tabaco S.A. HATSA) factory, in Cofradia, Honduras as well. The Honduran Punch cigars were created by cigar legend Frank Llaneza and first introduced to the US market in 1969 by Villazon (now part of General Cigar). Comprised of all Cuban-seed tobaccos from Honduras, Nicaragua, the US, and the Dominican Republic, Punch cigars offer the smoker a range of sizes not found in other brands. Using an US Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper, Punch cigars are medium to full bodied and very flavorful. The wrapper is a full-flavored leaf grown in Ecuador and the filler is a rich blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos. Not a conventional cigar, and probably not the first cigar for a new smoker to try, Punch is the straightforward, no-nonsense cigar it would have taken to bring a smile to the otherwise curmudgeonly face of Mr. Punch himself.
