Opening Night Sampler

Mike is all hype and ready to go to the opening night. He even created a special sampler for the occasion.

With a Romeo y Julieta Reserva Maduro Belicoso (5 x 52) Darkly rich, the mystique of the Romeo y Julieta Reserve Maduro matches the dark romance in its tragic Shakespearean namesake. Exquisitely blended with a harmony of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Peruvian filler, with a Nicaraguan binder and an oily Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper, this medium to full-bodied smoke captures the essence and depth of the romantic tragedy, and holds a sensually aromatic taste.

Then Mike picked a Macanudo Café Westminster (6 1/4 x 50). This big Belicoso shaped cigar is from the best of the Macanudo factory. The Connecticut shade wrapper coating the Westminster is from the primest of the prime leaves ever harvested and the creamy nutty taste is delicious.

A Mike's 1950 Belicoso (6 x 52) comes third with a medium-to-full in body cigar. Like all other cigars made by Manolo, Mike's 1950 is a masterpiece of tobacco blending. Sweet, yet spicy and full of interesting earthy notes it will please you from start to finish. When you light it the oil rich wrapper catch-up quickly and a nice, even, burn brings in the full aroma of a mature, completely aged tobacco. As you go through the next couple of inches the cigar will “warm-up” and produce the full range of its abundant flavors. Hints of nuts and coffee will titillate your palate and the finish is spiced with subtle hints of cinnamon and sweet herbs. The volume of smoke is full and the draw is effortless thanks to the superb rollmaking work of Matasas senior cigar crafters who fill the seats on the Mike’s 1950 production line.

Another landmark in tonight's selection is the Alec Bradley Maxx Curve (7 x 58). Rated 91 1/2 by C.A. Magazine, the MAXX is an extraordinary mature cigar. Coated with a dark Nicaraguan tobacco, it is blended to include tobaccos from 4 Latin American nations: Colombia, Nicaragua, Honduras and Mexico. The binder is a unique Costa Rican aromatic leaf and the cigar is a sweet medium to full-body, rich smooth and flavorful.

Sealing the deal is the venerable 898 Collection Belicoso (6 1/4 x 52). Another shaped giant, flavorful and succulent with silky gold skin and delicate taste of smoked pistachio, the 898 brings a wonderful night to its end.
