How do you "circumcise" your cigar? Mike does not pretend to know it better than the next guy, but, when you approach your humidor with a sharp object you better be sure what you should NOT do, ever.

1. Do not EVER cut your cigar before you're actually ready to light it up! That means NEVER to cut your cigars and place them back in the box. I will never forget the customer who brought a box of Montecristo back, for return. When we opened it I saw, to my horror that all the cigars were cut and ready to smoke. The guy explained that, since he does not always carry a cutter, he decided to have them prepared in advance. This brings up the next commandment:

2. Do not cut your cigar with your teeth. That is an absolute no-no. It's improper and rude, showing a great disrespect. You can give your cigar a "straight" cut, a "v-cut", a punch-cut. Any cut will do, but, if you ever find yourself in a bind, you could always use a gentle touch of your finger nail. Heck, you don’t need long nails either. Believe me, even if you bite your nails they could still do this job. Most cigar masters I know actually use their nails. 3. Do not cut your cigar under the "shoulder line" – cutting too low will result in unraveling of the wrapper as you smoke the cigar. For today sampler Mike picked a real treat:

H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon Toro (6 x 54), full of the rich nutty core flavors. Second entry is the Montecristo Churchill (7 x 50), massive on taste and pouring quality, the Montecristo is sweet with spicy glazed hazelnuts flavors and Cedar buttery notes; it is a long slow smoke with deliciously creamy smooth finish. Next is the Fonseca No. 300 (7 1/4 x 50) The blend is Tercio Aged for ultimate delicacy and finesse, with Tripa Dom-Nicaraguan filler, Connecticut Broadleaf binder and immaculate Cameroon wrapper. Romeo y Julieta Churchill (7 x 50), always consistent and spicy to the core this slow burning treasure is crisp and creamy with hints of dark coffee and cream. Last but not least, is the Licenciados Aniversario Robusto (5 x 52). The Anniversarios were made, in the best of Cuban tradition, as medium-to-full body, heavy and flavorful to boot. The wrapper is Honduran, Piloto Cubano seed, dark and delicious and full of sap. This wrapper by itself changes the character of the Licenciados Anniversario from the original medium taste altogether.
