Years ago, after General Cigar Corp. completed the acquisition of La Gloria Cubana from Ernesto Perez Carillo, a group of managers were touring the old La Gloria Cubana factory in the Little Havana section of Miami when they found an antique humidor. When they blew the dust off the old relic they were astonished to discover a genuine one of a kind humidor that was handmade for an old world monarch at the time when steamships were crossing the oceans. The classic humidor is the inspiration behind the new La Gloria Retro cigars and the result is a great value line. It took years in development to get the right 'retro' look and each box is a piece of art. La Gloria Cubana Artesano retro cigars come in four sizes, each in its own unique box, carefully designed to resemble the original humidor. The wrapper is a cross-breeding of a Connecticut seed, which was cultivated in Honduras. The maiden crop yielded a hearty, golden shade that despite its appearance it is full flavor and quite powerful. The double binder of bold Nicaraguan and Mexican leaf is further enhanced not only by Nicaraguan and Dominican ligero but also through an additional peppering of proprietary Nicaraguan and Dominican leaf.

The La Gloria Retro cigars are wonderful. Take one in your hand, it is a great looking cigar with a natural rustic golden wrapper, very silky to the touch and oily to boot. The draw is nice and easy and the burn is even and slow, producing nice dark grey ash similar to the most contemporary Cuban cigars.
