What was it like smoking a Davidoff 702 Series Cigar? Well, it was like when I took the new Tesla-S for a test drive the salesman asked if I wanted to try and push the red button that was marked "INSANE" on the dashboard. When I pushed the button all hell broke loose and the car accelerated to 60MPH in 2.5 Sec. The same thing is happening today with the new 702 Limited Edition line from Davidoff.
Davidoff, the industry leader in quality and consistency, is using their legendary White Label original blends in these cigars, but rather than use the standard Connecticut wrapper they wrapped the cigar with a super-powerful Piloto Cubano from Ecuador. Just like the red-button on the Tesla, the Pilotos’ shiny and oily skin provides a tremendous amount of power and a more intense experience to the cigars that aficionados know and love. Davidoff's master blenders have taken this remarkably tasty wrapper and paired it with some of Davidoff's most iconic production blends to create a bold new smoking experience.
If you must know, the "702" got its name from the first time Davidoff was experimenting with this bold and exciting wrapper. In the launch party for the first 702, back in 2009, Davidoff’s master blender, Hendrik “Henke” Kelner, told Gregory Mottola of The Cigar Aficionado magazine that the wrapper is an Ecuadoran hybrid that comes from three Cuban seeds. The company crossed a pair of seeds to create a wrapper they refer to as the 125, and that seed was crossed with another Cuban seed to produce the wrapper used on this cigar, the 702, hence how this cigar got its name. It was the lead story surrounding the Selección 702: this was the first time that this exclusive wrapper had ever been used.
“It is time to unexpect. Davidoff Masterblenders have taken on the challenge to reimagine and reinvent our most iconic cigars –2000, Special R, Special T, Aniversario No. 3 among others – and give them an exciting twist for those seeking a more intense, bolder taste experience,” said Charles Awad, svp global marketing and innovation at Oettinger Davidoff AG, in a press release. “These cigars, that have defined and refined Time, are wrapped in the new 702 ‘Habano’ wrapper from Ecuador to give them a bolder edge. The 702 Series is an exciting opportunity for those who have not yet had the chance to discover, or may want to rediscover, these iconic cigars.”
