During the boom days of the cigar renaissance, as we were blasting off, making cigars at full steam in our factory at Santiago, Dominican Republic, we were warned by retailers that somebody was selling counterfeit cigars, bearing our LA CAOBA mark around the country. A quick investigation revealed that a pirate shop on the island, which was dumping fake Montecristo’s, and, if I remember correct, Cuban stile (checkered band) Cohiba, was producing alongside these coveted cigars, commercial quantities of illegal cigars under our La Caoba brand name. We never found out why they decided to fake our brand, but a swift action by the Dominican authorities solved the problem in short order. This incident made us very proud of oLa Caoba, and to this date we see a lot of blessing with this cigar.
First, manufactured in Cuba, La Caoba Extra was originally produced in the early 1920th, it was one of the best Cuban cigars at the time. Today it is being made in Nicaragua. The line consists of seven vitolas to cover the entire spectrum of sizes to satisfy every aficionado out there. Just like in its Cuban heydays, the brand still boasts the “puro” crown, that is, all three cigar elements, wrapper, binder and filler, being harvested exclusively, at the lash fields of the Nicaraguan tropical region. This way we can maintain the strict quality control that is so crucial at the early stages of cigar making. The mist-full packing rooms of this Esteli factory produce a medium body, aromatic cigar with nutty, cocoa finish. Our motto is “always give the customer best value – at the lowest possible cost”, therefore we cut the prices of these boxes, leaving the bare cost as the final purchase tag for this diamond in the rough.
