Partagas Benji Masters Series Cigars
General Cigar’s Master blender Benji Menendez, one of the last living links to Cuba from pre-Castro days, and the mythological manager of the H. Upmann factory in Havana (best known for Montecristo) until it was nationalized by Fidel Castro, is the driving force behind this blend. The General Cigar factory, maker of Cohiba, Macanudo and the original Partagas, initially made about 200 blends to get it right, but the result is an elegant cigar that’s easy to appreciate. It’s medium in body and has a spicy aroma, with a mild sweetness from the Cameroon leaf and a spicy follow-up from the Connecticut binder and Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos inside. If you enjoy spicy cigars, this is an absolute winner. There’s enough to tingle your tongue, but it never turns harsh or bitter and there’s an accent of sweetness that lasts right into the second half. The aroma and easy draw make this an enjoyable cigar and the price is nice to boot. Overall grade: A-: Excellent.
